Max W. McClellan, 39, master mechanic, died attempting to save Louis J. Hansen, 50, tannery yard foreman, from suffocation, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, June 24, 1929. McClellan, standing on the ladder and having raised John L. Staples, 46, laborer, to the top, saw Hansen fall unconscious in the sewer. He descended the ladder to him, called for a rope, and then almost immediately was overcome. Five minutes later McClellan was drawn out by means of a rope. He could not be revived.
