Mason E. Marshall died attempting to rescue a woman and a boy from burning, Lancaster, Ohio, April 1, 2026. Marshall, his fiancée, 26, and their daughter, 5, and son, 8 months, were trapped on the upper floor of their two-and-a-half story duplex after a fire started outside at ground level below the building’s external stairs. The fire rapidly spread up the siding and above the roof, filling all levels of the house with thick, black smoke. Marshall, 27, subcontractor, entered his daughter’s room, where he dislodged a window air conditioner to create an exit, as the only exterior door from their unit was blocked by smoke and flames. Marshall picked up his daughter and held her outside the window until neighbors arrived with a ladder and a police officer climbed up to retrieve her. Instead of exiting the house through the window and climbing down the ladder to safety at the urging of the officer, Marshall turned back and disappeared from the window, remaining inside to search for his fiancée and son. Marshall was later found in his daughter’s room. His fiancée and son were found nearby in a separate room of the house. All three had died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke inhalation.

They were LOVE, LAUGHTER & LIGHT. The kind of people who made you feel at home just being near them.
Mason and Christen were devoted beautiful parents and the children were there world a perfect reflection of everything good in them.
They were survived by there beautiful daughter Rowyn Marshall who was the soul survivor of this tragedy she is there legacy and will keep her families light alive.
