Mark Anthony Gonzales

Mark Anthony Gonzales rescued a police officer from assault, San Antonio, Texas, August 22, 2021. On a street in a residential neighborhood, a 27-year-old police officer chased a 44-year-old man wanted on a felony warrant, who tripped and fell. The officer struggled on the street with the man, who shouted obscenities and attempted to strike the officer. Mark Anthony Gonzales, 35, gym employee, was driving nearby and stopped at the scene. He exited his vehicle and approached the officer and the assailant as they continued to fight. The assailant was moved onto his stomach and Gonzales pinned his legs to the pavement. The officer attempted to subdue the assailant, who grabbed the officer’s gun and attempted to pull it from its holster. The officer placed his hand over the assailant’s hand, and Gonzales pried the assailant’s fingers from the gun. The officer secured his gun and handcuffed the assailant, who continued to struggle, with Gonzales’s assistance. The assailant was ultimately placed in handcuffs and restrained.
