Margaret Kisner died saving Louella Youngman from drowning, Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, August 5, 1917. Miss Youngman, 23, got into difficulty while swimming about 40 feet from an island in the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Miss Kisner, 20, stenographer, swam to her and grasped her under the armpit. Miss Youngman then rested her hands on Miss Kisner’s shoulders. Miss Kisner turned to swim toward shore, but she was held low in the water and made no progress. She then gave Miss Youngman a push toward the island, and Miss Youngman by hard swimming reached wadable water. After pushing Miss Youngman, Miss Kisner turned on her back, sank, and was drowned just before a boat reached her. 18832-1445
