Lill S. Jarrell, 19, saved Anna C. Lawhorn, 15, from drowning, Humboldt, Tennessee, July 13, 1921. Anna stepped into a deep hole while wading in the Middle Fork of the Forked Deer River 10 feet from the bank. As she sank, she seized a young man near her around the neck, but he broke loose and swam to the bank. Miss Jarrell swam 30 feet to Anna, and the latter threw both arms around Miss Jarrell’s neck and drew her under the surface. At Miss Jarrell’s request, Anna then eased her hold, and Miss Jarrell swam with her with the current more than 20 feet to wadable water near the bank. 21687-1805
