Lewis A. Miller, 40, merchant, saved Marie T. Dumas, 25, and Mary E. Hutchinson, 7, from drowning, Goshen, Indiana, July 3, 1924. Miss Dumas, Mary, and Mary’s twin sister were riding in an automobile when the driver lost control. The automobile ran into a race, where the water was seven feet deep. Miller, who was fully clothed and had never swum, ran into the race. His momentum carried him within reach of Miss Dumas and Mary, who were 12 feet from the bank. Miss Dumas caught hold of him, and they were submerged. Miller freed himself and by paddling was carried in the current to chin-deep water 50 feet below the point he had entered. He was then given a stick by means of which he drew Miss Dumas and Mary to the bank. 24519-2067
