Lew E. Mustoe died attempting to save Jessie C. Lowe from electric shock, Oliver Springs, Tennessee, April 17, 1945. Lowe, 72, carpenter, came into contact with an uninsulated high-tension wire that had fallen to the ground after a storm. He fell and was unconscious. A current of 2,300 hundred volts of electricity was carried by the wire. Mustoe, 41, salesman, who saw Lowe fall, stopped his automobile and ran 300 feet across a field and a railroad track toward Lowe. Another man followed him to a point near Lowe and, having momentarily lost sight of him, then saw Mustoe unconscious on the ground close to Lowe. The wire was beneath both, and the clothing of both was burning. Mustoe and Lowe were dead when the wire was cut 10 minutes later. The palms of Mustoe’s hands were deeply burned. 40451-3421
