Leo A. Griffin, 27, machinist, died attempting to save Alma Finney, 19, from drowning, Battle Creek, Michigan, July 23, 1916. Miss Finney became distressed 55 feet from the shore of Graham Lake, where the water was about 15 feet deep. Griffin swam to her, but he also became distressed, although a good swimmer. Griffin’s father swam to Miss Finney and took her ashore, but Griffin sank and was drowned. 17733-1338
