Leatrice Harrison rescued Jametta T. Harrison from burning, Greenwood, South Carolina, February 1, 1985. Jametta, 3, and her sister Leatrice, 10, student, were sleeping in a bedroom of their grandmother’s house when fire broke out in the kitchen. Leatrice awoke, discovered the fire, and told Jametta to follow her from the house. Leatrice then awakened two small cousins who were in the house and took them to safety before realizing that Jametta was still inside. Leatrice re-entered the burning house and found Jametta surrounded by flames in the bedroom. She entered the flames, picked up Jametta, and carried her outside. Jametta was hospitalized for second- and third-degree burns; she recovered. Leatrice was hospitalized for 24 days for second- and third-degree burns on her face and third-degree burns on both hands and arms. 60363-7013
