Kenneth Levi Jackson saved Marion M. Bethune from drowning, Georges River, Nova Scotia, April 12, 1984. Jackson, 30, removed his coat and dived into the frigid water of the George River when he saw Miss Bethune, 54, afloat in the river about 150 feet from the bank. Jackson swam to Miss Bethune, took hold of her, and attempted to take her to the bank, but he submerged several times. He then began to push Miss Bethune toward the bank, but because of the current, they made little progress. Jackson then grabbed Miss Bethune’s collar and swam the remaining distance with her. Miss Bethune was hospitalized for effects of the ordeal, and she recovered. 60509-6978
