Joy Bellamy helped to rescue James L. Whitley, Jr., from assault, Houston, Texas. April 20, 1986. Whitley, 26, police officer, was arresting two men outside a restaurant when one of them punched him in the face and the other jumped on his back and took him to the sidewalk. The men kicked Whitley in the head and tried to pull his revolver from its holster. Mrs. Bellamy, 28, waitress at the restaurant, ran to Whitley and struggled with one of his assailants to prevent him from seizing Whitley’s gun while another waitress attempted to fight off the other assailant.
