Jonathan Dillinger, 41, train conductor, died attempting to save Mary E. Gruff, 65, from being run over by a train, Pottstown, Pennsylvania, January 23, 1909. Dillinger ran 45 feet across two tracks and attempted to shove the woman from in front of a string of cars being backed at a speed of 10 m.p.h., but she fell with her legs across a rail and was run over. Dillinger also was run over and was killed. The woman died two hours later. 3318-269
