John W. Basey rescued Russell E. Dean from assault, Phoenix, Arizona, July 19, 1989. Attempting to make an arrest, Dean, 40, police officer, struggled on the ground with a 16-year-old male who had gained control of Dean’s loaded revolver and was threatening him with it. Driving by, Basey, 40, window washer, saw the assault. He stopped and immediately ran to the scene, despite a warning by Dean that the assailant was armed.
