John R. Howard, 40, physician, saved Bessie B. and Doris L. Croley, 33 and 4, respectively, from being killed by a locomotive, Loyall, Kentucky, August 17, 1929. Mrs. Croley held Doris by the hand, and both stepped onto a track as a locomotive 25 feet from them began to move toward them. Howard ran 18 feet to Mrs. Croley, facing her, and lifted and pushed her back off the track. Mrs. Croley kept her hold of Doris, and the three fell, barely getting in the clear as the locomotive passed at a speed of about 5 m.p.h.
