John Moore attempted to save Kevin Miller and saved Michael G. Lewis from drowning, Miamisburg, Ohio, March 10, 1973. Lewis and Miller, 18, were on the Great Miami River in the former’s rubber raft and went over a low dam into turbulent water. The raft was forced under; and Miller became caught in the rolling boil of water below the dam, but Lewis was aided out by means of a rope thrown from the bank. Moore,18, telephone operator, decided to go to Miller’s aid in a fiberglass canoe and said Lewis should accompany him. When it reached a mass of accumulated debris below the dam, the canoe capsized. Moore swam to the bank and then saw that Lewis was in trouble in the rolling boiI. Swimming to Lewis, Moore moved him through the turbulent area to the bank. Firemen arrived and tried to save Miller, but he drowned.
