John Michael Foreman saved Katherine R. Cassell from drowning, Warren, Pennsylvania, January 9, 1983. At night, Mrs. Cassell, 48, slipped into the Allegheny River and was carried downstream by the swift current. From his house nearby, Foreman, 32, furniture re-upholsterer, heard her cries for help and ran to the river. After spotting her about 30 feet from the bank, he waded then swam to her, seized her, and took her back to the bank. Mrs. Cassell was hospitalized for hypothermia and recovered.
