John L. Farnham, 36, locomotive hostler, saved Edna M. Carlisle, 16, from being killed by a train, Chillicothe, Ohio, January 31, 1933. Edna stepped onto a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 20 m.p.h. Farnham, who was wearing a long overcoat, started toward her when the locomotive was 50 feet from her. He ran rapidly 15 feet to the track and stepped between Edna and the locomotive. Without pausing, he lifted her with both arms and ran off the track, barely clearing the train as it passed at a reduced speed of 10 m.p.h. 32790-2756
