John H. Harper saved John M. James from suffocation, West Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 18, 1920. James, 25, tank car cleaner, entered a tank car and almost immediately was overcome by gasoline fumes. After two men had entered the tank but had hurriedly come out without doing anything for James, Harper, 25, journal box packer, entered on a ladder, tied a piece of hose around James, and quickly ascended. He was slightly affected, and other men assisted him out and then drew James out. James was revived. 20490-1713
