John E. Loux, 26, repairman, died attempting to save Manuel Pois, 24, and Dominges Ferriera, 20, laborers, from suffocation, Hellertown, Pennsylvania, November 26, 1917. Pois and Ferriera were overcome by gas in a tank. Loux crawled through a two-foot pipe in the end of the tank to get them out, but he was overcome before he could accomplish anything. Several unsuccessful efforts were made to get Loux out, the men who tried it being affected by the gas. The gas was blown out of the tank with an air hose, and a man then entered with a smoke helmet and got Loux and the two laborers out. None of them could be revived. 18554-1358
