John A. Howard saved Tina R. and Brenda S. Tucker from burning, Tampa, Florida, July 28, 1973. Mrs. Tucker, her baby daughter Tina, and her husband were in a sedan when it was involved in an accident, resulting in all three occupants being knocked unconscious. Howard, 30, insurance underwriter, arrived after others had removed the husband. Flames were burning at the front end of the automobile and the front end of another vehicle jammed against the sedan’s right side as Howard ran to the open door at the opposite side. In order to reach Mrs. Tucker and the baby, Howard had to climb into the rear-seat compartment. He handed the baby to a man outside the sedan and then with some difficulty removed Mrs. Tucker from the automobile. Howard and the other man carried Mrs. Tucker away from the automobile shortly before it and the other vehicle became filled with flames.
