Janice Eileen Hardy helped to rescue Lucia M. Cordeiro from assault, Goderich, Ontario, August 7, 1991. Miss Cordeiro, 32, was camping with her sister and others when, late at night, a man in their party began to stab her. Camping nearby, Mrs. Hardy, 38, elementary school principal, heard shouting and ran to the scene. Joining Miss Cordeiro’s sister, who was struggling to stop the attack, Mrs. Hardy attempted to pull the assailant off Miss Cordeiro, and she struck him. She then freed Miss Cordeiro from the assailant’s grasp by pulling his hand from her hair. While Miss Cordeiro’s sister restrained the assailant, Mrs. Hardy and Miss Cordeiro ran to safety. Police arrived shortly and apprehended the assailant. Miss Cordeiro was hospitalized for treatment of her wounds, and Mrs. Hardy sustained contusions to her legs, from which she recovered.
