James W. Mullally, 60, crossing watchman, sustained fatal injuries attempting to save Emily J. Osgood, 73, from being killed by a train, Cambridge, Massachusetts, October 11, 1920. Mrs. Osgood walked between the lowered gates at a railroad crossing and started across the tracks when a train was approaching at a speed of 20 m.p.h. Mullally, who was standing at his post on the opposite side of the tracks, dodged under the gate and ran about 40 feet to her. As he was helping her across the track, they were struck by the locomotive. Mrs. Osgood was fatally injured, and Mullally died from his injuries three hours later. 20870-1652
