James W. Hoskins died attempting to save Doris O. Logston from drowning, Philo, Ohio, August 1, 1927. While Doris, 16, was wading in the Muskingum River, she stepped into a hole in which the water was 10 feet deep. Hoskins, 31, laborer, was on the bank, dressed. He had been troubled with indigestion and at the time was suffering from headache. He waded a step or two from the bank toward Doris and then suddenly sank in deep water. He did not rise and was drowned. Doris was rescued by another man. 27771-2218
