James M. Miller died as the result of attempting to help save Robert J. McManman from drowning, Livonia, Michigan, June 25, 1975. At a dam beneath a bridge over River Rouge, Robert, 13, fell into the turbulent water and was submerged. Miller, 24, food store manager, and another man entered the river fully clothed and swam toward where Robert had last been seen beneath the bridge. Miller and the other man disappeared from sight; and they later appeared downstream from the bridge where, unconscious, they were tumbled about in the turbulence. Robert, Miller, and the other man were removed from the water. Robert was pronounced dead; Miller and the other man succumbed several days later. 54758-6170
