James Hunter, 56, farmer, attempted to save William Riehle, 69, cabinet-maker, from suffocation, Walhalla, South Carolina, May 20, 1911. (See case of WILLIAM RIEHLE.) Hunter, tied to the well rope, was lowered into the well to rescue Riehle after Pruitt had been drawn up the second time. He tied a rope around Riehle, and both were drawn from the well. Hunter was so weak he was hardly able to stand. 6707-632
