James F. Mahon, 53, printing shop manager, saved George L. Girard, 9, from drowning, Corsons Inlet, New Jersey, September 2, 1912. George fell from a trestle into Corsons Inlet, where there was a 2 m.p.h. current and the water was 15 feet deep. Mahon, who had heart trouble and was weak physically, was on the trestle. He was heavily dressed but entered the water, swam 75 feet to the boy, seized his clothing, and swam 250 feet with him to the land. Mahon was nearly exhausted and remained in bed for a day and a half after the act. 9151-1147
