Jacob C. Messer saved Arnold Lambert from suffocation, Oak Hill, Ohio, August 15, 1913. Lambert, 37, was overcome in a well in which dynamite had been exploded. Messer, 44, real estate agent, who had heart trouble, asked a man who was working at the well to descend, but the man refused. Messer then descended a ladder into the well, tied a rope to Lambert, and ascended. Three feet below the top of the well he hesitated, but the man at the top grasped his hand, and he climbed out. He was breathing hard and was flushed, but he recovered. Lambert was drawn out and regained consciousness in seven hours. 11629-1335
