Howard R. Grundy, 44, salesman, died attempting to save Jodie T. Hatcher, 28, from drowning, Miami Beach, Florida, August 2, 1928. While Mrs. Hatcher was bathing in the Atlantic Ocean, she was carried by a current to a point 600 feet from shore. Two men started toward her but feared to continue. Grundy waded from shore and then swam 450 feet through rough water to her. He tried to swim toward shore with her but made no progress, and, after swimming with her for nearly 20 minutes, he became unconscious, as did Mrs. Hatcher. A man swam to them and with great difficulty took them to shore. Mrs. Hatcher was revived. Grundy could not be revived. 28543-2376
