Howard E. MacDonald rescued Kerry A. Steiner from burning, Ahsahka, Idaho, August 15, 1973. In a nighttime accident, Steiner, 21, was injured and pinned inside a pickup truck on which flames broke out and spread to the ceiling of the cab. Among persons attracted was MacDonald, 60, security guard, who ran to the open door of the truck opposite the side along which flames were spreading. The flames in the cab were issuing from the top of the door opening as MacDonald reached in and took hold of Steiner, who was inert. With some difficulty MacDonald jerked Steiner loose and then dragged him away from the truck, which soon afterward was totally afire. MacDonald sustained minor burns to his hands as he beat out flames on Steiner, who recovered from his injuries and burns.
