Howard E. Little, 17, student, saved Frank A. Barrett, 19, student, from electric shock, Pittsford, New York, May 5, 1911. Barrett climbed a pole to take down a banner, but while loosening it he came in contact with a wire conducting a current of over 4,000 volts of electricity and was instantly rendered unconscious. He fell on an arm of the pole with his jaw in contact with a high?power wire. Howard, who was inexperienced with electricity, immediately climbed up and, standing on the arm, used both hands to raise Barrett to a sitting position. He put one leg under Barrett, but he received a shock and quickly withdrew his leg. Standing with his feet between low?power wires and close to the high-power wires, Howard supported Barrett in a sitting position until an electrical repairman ascended and tied a rope around Barrett, who was then lowered to the ground. He was revived. 8268-775
