Homer B. Martz saved Virginia Wagner from being killed by a train, Cumberland, Maryland, June 1, 1924. As a train, running at a speed of about 33 m.p.h., was approaching, Miss Wagner, 70, started across the track, but she became confused and stopped in the middle of the track. Martz, 24, locomotive fireman, ran 50 feet to her and with his arms around her waist pushed her off the track, both barely clearing the locomotive. They fell just outside the track, and Miss Wagner sustained a fractured hip. Martz was not injured. 24304-1956
