Henry Meisel saved Thomas G. Goldkamp from drowning, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, February 15, 1931. Thomas, 15, schoolboy, broke through porous ice into water nine feet deep in Willow Grove Park Lake, broke ice for several feet in an effort to climb upon the ice, and then struggled to maintain himself at the surface at a point 70 feet from the bank. After two men in efforts to go to his aid had broken through the ice close to the bank and returned to the bank, Henry, 17, schoolboy, who was heavily clothed, skated from the opposite direction close to Thomas. The ice broke under him. Treading water, he repeatedly tried to push Thomas upon the ice, but the edge broke off at each attempt. He then called for a rope, and after much delay a rope was tossed to him from the bank. He wrapped the rope around Thomas, who was pulled to the bank. The rope was then tossed to Henry, who was too numb to climb upon the ice. He was pulled to the bank. Henry had been in the water five minutes.
