Henry L. Halliday saved Charles M. Herron from a runaway, Denison, Texas, June 20, 1913. Charles, 3, sitting on a velocipede, was directly in the path of a horse that was running away and galloping at a speed of about 13 m.p.h. The horse was hitched to a wagon partly loaded with lumber. When the horse was about 50 feet from Charles, who did not realize his danger, Halliday, 29, baseball player, saw that it would run over the child. He ran about 50 feet, grabbed Charles with one hand and the velocipede with the other when the horse was but two feet from him, and threw the child to a place of safety. Halliday barely escaped being struck by the horse, which passed him at undiminished speed. 12162-1105
