Henry C. Hollingsworth saved Ruby Singer from suffocation, Tioga, Louisiana, December 26, 1971. Fire broke out in a one-story frame dwelling while Mrs. Singer, 48, was asleep; and when she awoke and went into the hall, she was overcome by smoke which completely filled the house. Hollingsworth, 51, oil company lease operator, was driving by and saw flames issuing from the dwelling. Learning that Mrs. Singer was inside, Hollingsworth kicked open the front door and crawled into the house. In dense smoke he searched the living room, passing within three feet of the spreading flames, and eventually found Mrs. Singer in the hall. Still crawling, Hollingsworth dragged Mrs. Singer through the living room and out of the house, which soon afterward was totally afire. Mrs. Singer was revived.
