Hector L. MacDonald, 14, schoolboy, died attempting to save Richard F. Fahey, 11, from drowning, Boston, Massachusetts, March 25, 1910. Hector, a poor swimmer, and Richard, who could not swim, were on a raft that was being carried out from shore by the tide and wind in the deep waters of Boston Harbor. The boys jumped from the raft, and, as Hector went to the assistance of Richard, the boys grasped each other and went under the surface at a point 85 feet from shore. They reappeared a moment later but sank and were drowned. When the bodies were recovered, the boys still had hold of each other. 5176-558
