Harry L. Hamilton, 20, student, attempted to save Homer L. Hylton, 20, clerk, from drowning, Chester, Illinois, May 25, 1916. Hylton, while wading in the Mississippi River at night, got into deep water 12 feet from the bank. Hamilton swam 10 feet to Hylton, who was sinking, and Hylton grasped Hamilton around the neck and body, pinning Hamilton’s arm. They went under the surface at least twice, and Hamilton was unable to break Hylton’s hold. Hamilton called for help, and they were rescued by another boy. Hamilton was dazed, and Hylton was unconscious. 20025-1617
