Harold F. Overlin saved M. Zita Harrington and F. Boughton Foster from drowning, Newport, California, April 15, 1924. Miss Harrington, 18, and two female companions were riding in a rowboat on Newport Bay with Foster, 20, student, and Overlin, 20, student. The water was rough, and the boat swamped 225 feet from shore. Miss Harrington grabbed Foster, and a struggle ensued. Overlin swam 15 feet to Miss Harrington, pulled her away from Foster, and swam with her with effort to the boat. He then swam 30 feet to Foster. Foster grabbed him around the neck, and both were submerged. Overlin freed himself, rose for air, and then dived to Foster. Foster again grabbed him, but Overlin again freed himself. He then took hold of Foster’s shirt at the back, rose, and swam with him to the boat. During the swim he was slightly submerged several times and became almost exhausted. Another boat arrived from shore, and all were taken to shore. 24224-2145
