Harold Edward Herrmann died attempting to save Harry W. Eckfeld from drowning, Portsmouth, Ohio, March 12, 1927. Harry, 14, schoolboy, slipped into deep water in Pond Creek and was carried by the current 15 feet from the bank. Harold, 14, schoolboy, who was fully clothed, dived from the bank and swam five feet to him. Harold got hold of Harry and swam a stroke or two with him. Harry then caught hold of Harold, and, after making futile efforts to free himself, Harold swam a few feet toward the bank with Harry still holding to him. They then moved a few feet farther from the bank, and both sank and were drowned. 27123-2156
