Hampton Henton, Jr., helped to save Christopher M. and Brandon C. Currier from drowning, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, February 15, 1989. Christopher, 10, and his brother, Brandon, 13, were in the Atlantic Ocean when they were caught in a rip current and carried farther out. Unable to swim back to shore, they called for help. Observing their plight from his nearby hotel room, Henton, 40, farmer, ran to the beach, entered the water, and swam out to the boys. Henton joined hands with the boys and, as they held to him and trod water, struggled against the current to return to shore. They made little progress. Bystanders on shore threw one end of a rope to them. Christopher held it and was pulled in. Again the rope was thrown out, and Brandon liekwise was pulled to shore. A third time the bystanders threw the rope out; Henton held it and was also pulled to shore. Henton and the boys were tired but uninjured.
