H. Burdette Martin, 37, farmer, died attempting to save Eva S. Wheeler, 21, from suffocation, Thermopolis, Wyoming, May 8, 1910. Martin ran from a place of safety in a sulphur mine and jumped down an eight-foot descent to Miss Wheeler, who was practically helpless and being overcome by gas at the bottom of the mine. Twice he lifted Miss Wheeler but fell to the floor with her. Both were overcome and, when taken out later, were found to be dead. 6636-624
