Guy C. Holbrook, Jr., 15, student, saved Edward L. Shinn, 35, assistant sales manager, from drowning, Wells, Maine, July 4, 1922. Shinn was swept by an undertow from wadable water in the Atlantic Ocean into deep water 400 feet from shore. There were swells three to five feet high. Guy waded 100 feet from shore and swam 300 feet to Shinn, who was floating in an almost exhausted condition. Guy took hold of Shinn and swam with great difficulty 25 feet toward shore. A man then reached them with a life ring attached to a long rope. Guy grasped it, and he and Shinn were drawn to wadable water. 22571-1916
