Glenn L. McComas saved Thomas D. Schoonover from being killed by a train, Lima, Ohio, April 27, 1952. Thomas, 3, wandered onto a track and ran midway the rails toward a train which was approaching at a speed of 40 m.p.h. McComas, 25, baggage handler, at work outside a station, sprinted 900 feet toward the train, ascended the track-bed to just outside the rail, and overtook Thomas when the train was 100 feet from them. Grasping Thomas at the waist, McComas in full stride turned and carried him six feet from the track, barely clearing the train, which passed them at a speed of 30 m.p.h. and stopped 1,200 feet beyond them. M Comas was winded and fatigued. 42549-3808
