Glen P. Angus saved Gretchen U. and Erika E. Troutman from drowning, Erdenheim, Pennsylvania, January 6, 1984. Gretchen, 7,and Erika, 5, fell into the six-foot-deep water of Hillerest Pond after walking on the ice that partially covered it. After seeing the girls floundering in the water, Angus, 30, service station manager, ran to the pond and swam about 220 feet through open water to them. After securing a hold on Erika, who had submerged by that time, he grasped Gretchen and, with one of the girls in each arm, kicked the greater part of the distance back to the bank. The girls were taken to the hospital for observation, and they fully recovered.
