Gideon W. Lindroth died saving Roy H. Hanson from drowning, New Milford, Illinois, February 19, 1915. Roy, 13, schoolboy, fell into the Kishwaukee River from a bridge, where the water was deep. Lindroth, 22, mechanic, ran about 200 feet to the river and 12 feet over a jam of ice at the bank, broke his way through 10 feet of thin ice to open water, and swam to Roy, who was 90 feet from the bank and swimming weakly. He put his arm around Roy and swam about 75 feet with him to the edge of thin ice along the jam, where Roy supported himself with his arms on the ice. Lindroth swam about five feet toward the jam through thin ice that broke before him and then suddenly disappeared beneath the jam. He was drowned. Roy was taken from the water by a man in a boat. 14381-1127
