Gerald Thomas Grimm saved John F. Lynam from possibly being shot, Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, February 4, 1988. Lynam, 36, a police officer, was attempting to arrest a 22-year-old man on a highway ramp when the man began to struggle for control of his concealed, loaded handgun. They fell to the pavement. Grimm, 30, communications technician, was driving by and saw the struggle. Determining that Lynam needed help, Grimm approached at a run, then jumped atop the man. Grimm and Lynam removed the gun from the man’s grip, then subdued and handcuffed him.
