George R. Lee saved Helen C. Finn from drowning, Northampton, Massachusetts, July 20, 1916. Miss Finn, 22, became helpless in water six feet deep 225 feet from shore in the Connecticut River. George, 14, schoolboy, waded rapidly 190 feet and then swam about five feet toward Miss Finn. Feeling that his clothes were too heavy, he returned to water in which he could stand and hastily removed all of his clothes except a jersey. He then swam 35 feet to Miss Finn. He put one arm around her and drew her back against his body. He swam about 35 feet and then released Miss Finn momentarily in order that he might regain his breath. She swallowed some water. George again grasped her and swam to water in which they could wade. They had waded nearly to the bank before aid reached them. 16820-1380
