George P. Hiteshue attempted to save Ada M. Hugg from drowning, Long Bridge, Pennsylvania, August 11, 1917. (See case of ROBERT W. EICHER.) George, 16, clerk, entered the creek with his clothes on at the same time Robert did. He waded and swam to within about three feet of Ada and reached for her, but she grasped his wrist, and he sank with her. He got free under water and rose to the surface. Without seeing Ada, he took a stroke or two toward the bank and was then assisted to the bank. He was semiconscious but revived. 18906-1424
