George L. McKain died attempting to save Clarence R. Kibler from drowning, Stewart, West Virginia, July 28, 1918. Kibler, 19, driver, became distressed while bathing in the Little Kanawha River, 15 feet from the bank, where the water was eight feet deep. McKain, 48, tool manufacturer, who was dressed, ran into the water and dived to Kibler, who had gone under the surface. McKain came to the surface with Kibler on his back. Kibler was holding him with both arms around his neck. Both again went down, McKain reappearing at the surface a moment, and both were drowned. 19084-1446
