George J. Morgan attempted to help save Delores A. Estes from burning, Ocala, Florida, February 28, 1983. After being alerted that Mrs. Estes, 55, was unconscious in her burning car following a fiery 22-vehicle accident on an interstate highway, Morgan, 64, water department foreman, began to run toward the car. As he neared it, a sudden explosive force of flame blew him and another man backward, inflicting severe burns. Mrs. Estes escaped with minor injuries. Morgan was hospitalized for five weeks for treatment of second- and third-degree burns to 40 percent of his body.
