George A. Lowry, 52, inventor, attempted to save Annie L. Pollard, 37, from drowning, Pablo Beach, Florida, August 22,1908. Lowry, in a weakened condition resulting from sickness, swam out 300 feet into the Atlantic Ocean to the unconscious woman, who was drifting seaward, and returned, pushing her ahead of him, to within 150 feet of shore, where others gave assistance. Mrs. Pollard died without regaining consciousness. Lowry was confined to his bed for a week. 3088-309
